Candidates Answer Follow Up Questions

TO: Dennis Baker, Jason Bollinger, Jo Glenn, Madison Horn and Brandon Wade

Dear Candidate,

We had an inquiry from one of our members and the board felt it was worth putting the question to our candidates one last time before June 28!

If you can reply by Friday, we will post your answer on our Facebook page and in our weekly newsletter! The questions are from EDW members who attended both candidate forums but are still undecided on your race.

Please respond to these two questions:

1. What makes you uniquely qualified to challenge Lankford and win over voters?

2. What strategies will you use in your campaign to achieve this?

Thank you SO MUCH! We appreciate your efforts to make Oklahoma a better place for all its citizens.

Brandon Wade, Candidate for U.S. Senate

1. What makes you uniquely qualified to challenge Lankford and win over voters?

“I believe what makes me qualified to not only challenge Lankford, but be able to beat him as well is my roots. Being from Oklahoma and from the working class, I truly understand the struggles we are facing. The skills I have learned over the years while serving as the Committee Chairman for or local Union and on as the Vice President on the Executive Board for our International Union, will also help me communicate with all Oklahomans and make a connection with them. Meeting and discussing the real concerns with the people is the key to winning this race. The people want a candidate that will listen to them and work for them, not other interests. That is exactly what I am!"

2. What strategies will you use in your campaign to achieve this?

"With the union I’ve learned to listen to opposing views and find common ground. Most of the answers we seek aren’t far left or far right. It will take all of us coming together to find them. I will use these skills to help all Oklahomans to come together to find the answers that will make Oklahoma successful in whatever comes our way.

I feel the best way to do this is to get out and meet as many people as possible. I truly feel that is the best way to make the connections that must be made to build the trust that is needed, as well as, deserved. I will be open and available to have any conversation that is needed to help the voters understand where I stand on any issue. In short just building trust and connecting with everyone I will be working for. It is my job to represent the people of Oklahoma and I will do that to the best of my ability.

Again thank you all for the additional questions and I hope to gain your support! I look forward to winning the primary and then turning this seat blue. That is when the real work will begin. Together we can make the changes that we need to make!”

Jo Glenn, Candidate for US Senate

“First of all thank you and the entire Edmond Democratic Women membership for providing such riveting political forums. I was fortunate enough to attend both of them and the support and feedback in the room was amazing.

1. What makes you uniquely qualified to challenge Lankford and win over voters?

"All of the candidates have their strengths and weaknesses and many of them are not unique to one candidate. For me it is a long and varied work history which for many years, I was able to advocate for clients in court in sometimes hostile settings and sometimes friendly settings. Being able to evaluate your audience to tailor the tone of your message to appeal to the audience without pandering or aggravating is actually a skill. I have found that my style of campaigning has been well received by voters of urban an rural counties.

That being said, in order to win we must also convince Republicans that this year, they are better served by electing a democrat. Not an easy task but my experience and skill should serve me and the Democratic Party well."

2. What strategies will you use in your campaign to achieve this?

"My strength is meeting people, listening and talking about issues and what election choices can bring to their communities. I plan to partner with local democrats to not only help my campaign but to hopefully strengthen the campaigns of all the democrats. If each candidate campaigns separately without the full assistance of local democrats then the chances to change voting patterns is not good.

I also plan to research the vastly different areas of the state to assess real needs and hopefully offer real solutions. Example: Affordable rural broadband. Everyone talks about it and the Republicans promise it but nothing gets done. I would partner up with out Corporation Commission Candidate, Warigia Bowman, (whose masters and doctorate thesis was on this particular subject and we would go visit those counties and present concrete ideas to how to accomplish this. I think it would help both campaigns.

Also I would be there to tout local legislative candidates and county officers. We tend to ignore these counties because of voter party disparity and the situation of losing more democrats gets worse."

JASON BOLLINGER, CANDIDATE FOR US SENATE

  1. What makes you uniquely qualified to challenge Lankford and win over voters?

I am a lifelong Oklahoman with deep roots in this state. I grew up in rural Oklahoma but have lived in the Oklahoma City Metro for nearly ten years. I was brought up to appreciate hard work and dedication to our community and my family. What makes me uniquely qualified is not only do I have prior federal government experience and am an attorney and small business owner, I have built a team from Oklahoma, of people who understand and live the realities we are facing here every single day. My team and I are equipped to relate to and engage with voters regardless of political philosophy—meeting them where they are and finding common ground on the issues that matter. We have been running a professional campaign since day one—something an opponent of James Lankford MUST do to win in November. We know Oklahoma and the issues Oklahomans face better than anyone else in the race, including Lankford himself. Further, my legal background and prior federal government and foreign affairs experience will allow me to stand toe-to-toe with James Lankford on the issues. We know Senator Lankford is well-spoken and as an incumbent, is fairly well-versed on a lot of issues (even though we disagree with him). As a trained debater and lawyer, I am too, and I am prepared to challenge Senator Lankford starting June 29th. I am the only candidate in this race who is prepared to do so.

  1. What strategies will you use in your campaign to achieve this?

We will talk to voters where they are. We plan to knock doors, make calls, and send text messages. Also, given my age (30 years-old), I am uniquely positioned to engage and excite young voters, who are typically less engaged. Beyond that, there is a huge swath of voters who vote only in presidential elections that don’t feel motivated and aren’t frequently reached out to outside of elections every four years; we will be talking to those voters as well. We know that if we motivate progressive voters, we can absolutely win against Lankford in November.

Additionally, given my rural roots, DC experience, and legal background, I am able to talk with and relate to voters of any demographic and part of the state. We proved this by successfully launching our campaign in my rural, conservative hometown of Carter, Oklahoma. This is important because, to win in November, we have to get Republicans on board. I have been doing that without compromising our progressive values, and I will continue to do so.

Thanks so much,

Team Jason
