We are concerned about national and state policies relating to climate change and its effects on all people. Although climate affects minorities and the poor in greater numbers, the effects of climate change have far-reaching effects for all. Among the worst scenarios are endangering food chains, causing water scarcity, and greater financial costs for health care and defense. Sea-level rise has already affected many communities. Violent weather has increased, affecting the ecology and destroying both flora and fauna and habitats. The cost of insurance to protect property will rise, as it already has in Florida.
Eliminate Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GHGRP). This policy would eliminate collecting data on future sources of pollution and lead to poorer air quality. With more greenhouse gasses entering the atmosphere due to expanding the use of coal, oil, and natural gas, temperatures will continue to rise. The highest temperatures ever recorded on earth occurred in 2023, and unless these pollutants are controlled, temperatures will continue to rise, endangering crops, domestic animals, and people. Eliminate the use of climate scenarios based on predicted greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere. Using Representative Concentration Pathway analysis, scientists are able to predict possible changes in our climate. The new rule would prevent businesses and government agencies from creating plans to prevent dangerous levels of air pollution. [436]
Rescind Medicaid requirements for non–health care benefits and services related to climate change. In 2022, the American Medical Association (AMA) declared climate change a public health crisis. Given the new requirements, the state Medicaid agencies would no longer be required to provide home modifications that do not produce emissions or produce low emissions. [469]
Curb the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) oversight capacities. This would limit or eliminate tracking methane emissions, managing pollutants and chemicals, and conducting research. On the first day of the new president’s term, terminate the new hires and reduce the number of permanent employees, further lowering the agency’s ability to provide information to the public. [286] [422]
Change the focus of the National Weather Service (NWS). By commercializing its forecasting operations and turning over control to the states, warning systems of destructive weather will be uneven throughout the nation. [675]
Withdraw from climate change agreements such as the Paris Agreement. Doing so would lessen access to global research programs and destroy cooperation among nations. [709]
End government focus on climate and green subsidies. Under this change, carbon emissions would increase, and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere would rise. The focus is intended to be on saving money at the expense of efficiency. [378]
